Understandably, doing work in this space at IBM was somewhat chaotic: reorganization, pivoting, shifting priorities—all in the midst of changing design's role at IBM and how products get made at scale. I learned to get less attached to my work, have product ideas of my own in my back pocket at all times, and to find my voice when advocating for users. The experience forced me to stop waiting for permission, and to trust that I knew what needed to be done.
My work in DevOps and Cloud Integration involved a mix between facilitating new ideation for products and cleaning house on existing ones. Faced with limited front-end resources, inconsistent quality, and the need to prototype quickly, I began working on design systems at both our product suite level and the business unit.
